Edwards air force base in Colorado US, is the safest place to land an aeroplane in the world. Although it handles mainly space shuttles, it’s an exemplification of safety for aircraft while landing and taking off. With a runway of 12km is so safe that the pilot coming to land can basically close their eyes and still land safely.
Entebbe airport has 3.65km. Though safe, Entebbe is not well lit. It has very dim lights. At night and during cloudy and rainy times, pilots struggle to locate the runway. Some airports especially in developing countries have very short runways while others are poorly maintained thus creating a possibility of accidents. Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria have some of Africa’s worst airports. Safe airports are a prerequisite for Foreign Direct Investment as it gives travellers confidence as they travel into and out of the country on business trips.
