You’ve travelled into this new big city. It’s been a long journey. You really had looked forward to this travel. You were excited to explore this new place. You are booked into this very nice hotel. You check into your room. You freshen up and check out all the facilities. You will be spending five days in this hotel. Welcome to your new home. The hotel has fast free internet (WiFi), swimming pool, a gym, sauna and massage parlor. It also has beautiful gardens. It has a big flat TV screen with full access to all international channels. In short you are spoilt for choice. You want to ensure that your stay in this place yields maximum benefits in form of great memories. Your time is limited but you want to get the most from your visit.
If you are not a frequent traveller, you will be even more excited and anxious. People who travel a lot have had the above experience. It increases our adrenaline and sets us up to a lifetime experience. Some people love staying indoors inside their hotel rooms while others love getting wild and exploring all the new areas in the city. I once visited Paris and wanted to see as many places as possible. I ended up walking for more than eight hours for sight seeing. By the time I was done, my legs were pretty hurting. Other people especially the young and teenagers love to go clubbing and enjoying night life. I once went to Mombasa, Kenya with fellow youngsters and we moved from one club to another till late in the night. There is another category of people who do not even sleep in the hotel bed. Once they’ve checked in, they go out only to return around 4:00am in the morning. They literally paint the town red.
Such people don’t like staying indoors. Whatever type of personality you have, when you visit a new city, there is a better way of utilizing your time. When you’ve watched all the TV, engaged you mobile phone using free WiFi, gone to the gym and sauna and swimming pool. You even called and talked to your loved ones back home. Sometime you are in the room and boredom sets in. May be you don’t like socializing or you are the kind of person that never likes to be out late in the night. Being alone in a hotel room can sometimes get stiff boring. The best way to use your time in your hotel room is to utilize your time more profitably. The best way for me is THINKING! You really need to take time to do some creative and deep thinking and get really reflective. Switch off all the gadgets, and get down to think. I find it more rewarding and fulfilling at the same time. You will be amazed at the quality ideas you will come up with if you really try it out. Travelling is fun. You can get many of your projects successfully completed when you deliberately create that quality time for your self in a hotel room far away from your home. I’ve just written this from the confort of my room in a new city where I will be for the next couple of days. Safe travels!
